Hongyang Tao is a linguist and linguistic anthropologist. Tao's research interests include Chinese language teaching and learning as an additional language, Chinese heritage language identity, motivation, and maintenance, language socialization in the Chinese diasporas and the commodification of the second language education.

As an enthusiastic and dedicated language instructor, Tao is always eager to create an engaging language-learning community to enhance the learning experience of students. She is fond of developing student-centered and pragmatic class by adopting innovative pedagogy and authentic materials. In addition, Tao always values and recognizes each student's unique background, personality, learning motivation, styles, and objectives, catering to boost their learning outcomes. 

Before join DKU Kunshan, Tao was involved in Chinese teaching at various institutions globally, such as Beijing Language and Culture University, and Capital Normal University in China; Nanyang Girls High School in Singapore; Universita de Ca'Forscari in Italy, Education Department of New South Wales in Australia; as well as University of British Columbia and Langara College in Canada. 

Tao got her doctoral degree at University of British Columbia, M.A. at Capital Normal University and Universita de Ca'Forscari, and B.A. in Tianjin Foreign Studies University.
