Konstantinos Efstathiou

Associate Professor of Mathematics, Duke Kunshan University

Associate Dean of Undergraduate Curricular Affairs, Duke Kunshan University

Konstantinos Efstathiou is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Curricular Affairs at Duke Kunshan University. He studied physics at the University of Athens before completing his PhD at the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale in France. Prior to joining DKU in 2019, he taught and conducted research at Xi’an Jiaotong–Liverpool University in Suzhou and at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

His research explores questions in dynamical systems and mathematical physics, especially the geometry of integrable Hamiltonian systems and the behavior of coupled oscillator networks. He has written a research monograph in the Springer Lecture Notes in Mathematics series and published papers in leading journals such as Reviews of Modern Physics, Physical Review Letters, Communications in Mathematical Physics, and Nonlinearity.

He has taught across the mathematics curriculum for more than two decades in both Europe and China, with courses ranging from calculus and multivariable calculus to real analysis and topology, dynamical systems, and classical and quantum mechanics. His teaching has been recognized through awards and nominations, and he is committed to building engaging, inclusive, and research-informed learning environments. He also works closely with undergraduate students, supervising Signature Work projects, independent studies, and other forms of student scholarship.

Within DKU, he has been actively involved in academic development and leadership. He previously served as co-director of the Zu Chongzhi Center, major convener for the Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences major, and Associate Chair of the Division of Natural and Applied Sciences.
