His research focus is number theory, and he is especially interested in Artin’s primitive root conjecture and its related problems. His teaching interests at Duke Kunshan include calculus and linear algebra.

Sgobba has published in renowned international academic journals including “Mathematics of Computations”, “Manuscripta Mathematica” and “Journal of Number Theory”.

He has an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Luxembourg, where he was also a postdoctoral researcher in 2022. Before joining Duke Kunsan, he was an assistant professor at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (Suzhou, China) from 2023 to 2026.

He has taught courses in linear algebra, analysis, mathematical modelling. He obtained the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UK) and he is a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
