Peng Sun (SMIEEE, SMCIC) is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Data Science at Duke Kunshan University. His current research interests include Intelligent Transportation Systems, Vehicular Edge Intelligence, Internet-of-Vehicles, cross-layer optimization and design, coverage and connectivity planning, and network survivability.
Dr. Peng Sun, has dedicated recent years to creating an edge intelligent framework to enhance transportation safety and efficiency. With a track record of contributing to prestigious venues like CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, ACM MM, and IEEE journals (e.g., IEEE TITS, TII, TVT, etc.), Dr. Sun's team has published more than 100 top-tier papers in related fields. Additionally, he leads various projects funded by respected bodies such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, local government, and university grants. Dr. Sun's excellence in IoV-ITS research has earned him the MSWiM Best Short Paper Award 2025, INSAI Best Paper Award 2024, Top 2% Highly Cited Papers by Clarivate Web of Science 2024, ACM MSWiM Best Paper Nomination Award 2022, ACM SIGSIM Rising Star Award 2021, IEEE Computer Spotlight Article 2019, and the IEEE GLOBECOM Best Paper Award 2019.
Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for ACM Computing Surveys, an editor for ACM International Conference Proceeding Series (ICPS), and a guest editor for Computer Communication journal. He is also an active reviewer for many top-tier journals, e.g., IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks, etc. He also served as Technical Program Committee Co-chair/member in many well-known conferences, e.g., ACM SIGCOMM’26, IEEE/ACM DS-RT’25, IEEE PIMRC’23, ACM SIGCOMM’22, ICDCS’22, IEEE GLOBECOM'18~25, ACM MSWiM'17~25, and IEEE ICC'20~26, etc.
Before joining DKU, he worked as a Research Associate at the PARADISE Research Laboratory, University of Ottawa, Canada. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Ottawa, Canada, in 2016 and his M.Sc. degree from Lakehead University, Canada, in 2010. All in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and Automation from Soochow University, China, in 2008.
