His research intersects feminisms and queer theories, literary and visual studies, philosophical and religious inquiries in their decolonial variants in Spanish, English, Chinese, French and Nahuatl.
He has published widely both within academia and beyond. He is author of the book "Queer Ancient Way: A Decolonial Exploration" (Punctum Books, 2018), and co-edited the special issue The Ontology of the Couple (2019) for GLQ – A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies, and the special issue Hyperimage (2018) for the journal New Art. He was chief curator of the "minor cosmopolitan weekend" at the HKW Haus der Kulturen der Welt (2018) and was editor of its catalogue "Minor Cosmopolitan: Thinking Art, Politics and the Universe Together Otherwise" (Diaphanes/Chicago UP, 2020).
He is currently co-curating the 2020 Guangzhou Image Triennial and is working on two projects dealing with the concepts of "transdualism" and "counterfeit" respectively in the Global South, especially Latin America and China.
Xiang has a cotutelle Ph.D. in comparative literature in 2013 from University of Tübingen and University of Perpignan with the European Union-funded Erasmus Mundus joint doctorate. Before joining DKU, he was a postdoctoral fellow of the DFG Research Training Group minor cosmopolitanisms at Potsdam University from 2016 to 2020, and a fellow at the ICI-Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry from 2014 to 2016.
