Shi’s research interests focus on the areas of systemic functional linguistics, multimodal discourse analysis, legitimation code theory and English for academic purposes. He has been designing and teaching academic English-language courses for undergraduate students in business majors and postgraduate students.
Shi has an M.Ed. in TESOL from the University of Tasmania, an M.A. degree in applied linguistics from the University of Nottingham, and a Ph.D. in English and communication from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to joining in Duke Kunshan, he was a lecturer in English for academic purposes at Xi’An Jiao Tong Liverpool University, China.
