Hwa Young Chun's teaching and research, which are grounded in supporting underserved communities and underrepresented groups, focus on multicultural education/culturally responsive pedagogy (focusing on language teaching and pre-service teacher education) within the diverse classroom in international contexts. She has a varied range of teaching experiences in formal and informal schooling with diverse groups in multiples levels. Previously she has taught Korean language and educational courses in the US.

She has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University.
