Xiaofei Pan

Lecturer in Chinese Language, Duke Kunshan University

Pan teaches Chinese language courses across proficiency levels, with primary experience in intermediate and pre-advanced instruction. As a teacher-researcher, she integrates scholarly inquiry with classroom practice, striving for theory-grounded and evidence-informed teaching and curricular innovation. Her recent work centers on integrating language learning with intercultural communication, L2 writing development, and authentic learning materials. She also supports students’ holistic development by creating co-curricular and extracurricular learning opportunities. As a certified Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) Tester, she has contributed to the DKU Advanced Chinese Proficiency Certification (ACPC) program since its launch in 2024.

Pan has published a book chapter in a volume published by Multilingual Matters and several articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Second Language Writing and Frontiers in Psychology. She has served as a peer reviewer for Frontiers journals since 2025. She has also presented her research at national and international conferences in the field.

She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Shanghai International Studies University and East China Normal University, respectively. Pan received her Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition from the University of Iowa, where she also served as a teaching assistant for the Chinese Program. Before joining Duke Kunshan University, she taught Chinese language and culture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
