His current research interests are in higher education assessment, focusing on feedback, specifically second language student feedback literacy, teacher feedback literacy, and feedback culture within Sino-foreign higher education contexts. He has had papers published in the Journal of Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, the leading academic journal in his field and is a regular reviewer of manuscript submissions for this journal. He previously served as the chair of DKU’s Language and Culture Center research committee and as a member of the university’s Institutional Review Board. At Duke Kunshan University, as well as leading the graduate English for Academic Purposes faculty team, he has taught graduate level academic writing, graduate level academic oral communication skills, applied linguistics, forensic science, and intercultural communication advertising courses to students across different levels disciplines and nationalities.
Davies has a first class B.Sc. (honors) in forensic science, an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with Applied Linguistics (distinction), and a Post Graduate Diploma in TESOL (DELTA). As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has been recognized for his sustained record of leadership and excellence in higher education teaching, research, and service and the positive influence his practice has had upon others. He has held several academic leadership roles related to learning, teaching, and quality assurance including as Program Leader of a British B.A. International Business Communication degree and as The University of Lancashire’s Business Development lead, establishing, maintaining and enhancing academic partnerships throughout China. He has previously lectured at New York University Shanghai, is a regular teacher trainer, and has experience teaching across higher education, government, executive, and private sectors.
