Xianzhi Lin

Dr. Lin's research focus is RNA biology, with a particular interest in long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) biology. He has two main research directions: (1) To figure out functions and mechanisms of lncRNAs in physiology and pathology. The lncRNA of current interest is UCA1. (2) To develop RNA-centric methods for identification of lncRNA-binding partners. His teaching interests at Duke Kunshan include RNA biology, molecular biology and experimental methods in functional genomics. Lin has a B.E. in biological engineering from Kunming University of Science and Technology and a Ph.D.

Fan Liang

His research interests lie at the intersection of digital media, political communication, technology governance, and computational social science. His work recognizes that the modes of power have significantly shifted in the era of algorithms, big data, and social media. As such, we need to understand how, why and by whom power relations are transformed through new communication technologies, and how the new modalities of power can influence various actors and the operation of technologies.

Zuchuan Li

Zuchuan's research focus lies at the intersection of data science, statistics, machine learning and environmental science. His research has been published in leading academic journals including Nature, Nature Communications and Global Biogeochemical Cycles. He has been awarded the NASA Earth and space science fellowship and the WHOI postdoctoral scholarship. His teaching interests include data science, statistics, machine learning and environmental science. He has a B.Sc. from Wuhan University and a Ph.D. from Duke University.

Wenjing (Wendy) Li

Wendy Li's research interests include second language socialization, multilingual and multimodal literacy practices, English-medium instruction and transnational higher education, and language teacher identity, agency, emotions. Her teaching interests at Duke Kunshan include English for academic purposes and multimodal composition. She recently co-edited the book, "International Students' Multilingual Literacy Practices: An Asset-based Approach to Understanding Academic Discourse Socialization" (Multilingual Matters, 2022).

Ming Li

His research interests are in the areas of speech processing and multimodal behavior signal analysis with applications to human-centered behavioral informatics, notably in health, education and security. He has published more than 80 papers and served as a scientific committee member and reviewer for multiple conferences and journals. He was area chair of speaker and language recognition at Interspeech 2016 and Interspeech 2018.

Junyi Li

Her research focuses on student engagement and motivation in language learning, inclusive language teaching, and professional development for teachers. She has taught English for academic purposes at a transnational university, worked with both typically developing students and students with special needs in K-12 school settings, served as a research assistant in federally funded research programs, and has received Harvard Initiative for Learning and Teaching grants for educational innovations.

Cong Li

His primary research interests are gamification in language learning, and curriculum and material development. Li has a Ph.D. in East Asian language and literature with a focus on Chinese pedagogy from Ohio State University. Before joining Duke Kunshan, he taught Chinese at Ohio State University and Kenyon College.

Yitzhak Lewis

His teaching and research interests include comparative literature in Hebrew and Spanish, literary theory, transnational writing and world literature. His forthcoming book, "A Permanent Beginning: Nachman of Braslav and Jewish Literary Modernity" (SUNY Press, 2020), deals with the Russian imperial context of early modern Hebrew and Yiddish letters. His current book project, "A World of Literature: Jorge Luis Borges and the Problems of Literary Marginality," is a study of marginality and mysticism as literary tropes in the writing of Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. Lewis has a B.A.

Joohyun Lee

He is a molecular geneticist whose research focuses on understanding the epigenetic regulation of chromatin switches in response to environmental cues using the plant model organism, Arabidopsis thaliana.
