Peter John Wergin

His teaching interests center on growth mindset, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, curriculum development and design, and learner assessment in the classroom. He believes the classroom is a place where students should be encouraged to be risk-takers, develop strategies that lead to autonomous learning and become empowered in their individual pursuits toward achieving success. He started his teaching career in schools in Canada and Japan, and spent nearly 20 years in South Korea, where he lectured at Korea University, Masan University and Changwon University.

翁真洁

Weng's research focus includes language teacher education, second language writing, culturally responsive pedagogy and technology use in educating multilingual students. In particular, she is interested in exploring the intersection among language teacher expertise, agency and identity. Her publications include journal articles, book chapters, book reviews and newsletters.

Daniel Weissglass

His work focuses on the intersection of philosophy, the cognitive sciences and emerging technologies. He has two major projects: Improving our understanding of cognition and the mind, and developing policies' ethical outcomes in health, science and technology. His past work includes papers on mental representation, cognitive architecture and reactivity, health ethics, AI ethics and game/media studies. His teaching interests include the philosophy of mind, cognitive/behavioral sciences, artificial intelligence and applied ethics, particularly in global health. Weissglass has a B.A.

王媛

Yuan Wang's research interests cover global China, African politics and comparative political economy of development. She is especially interested in African state effectiveness and China's economic and political engagement with Africa. Her teaching interests at Duke Kunshan include China and the world, Sino-African relations, and African politics and development. Her book project investigates why Chinese-financed and Chinese-constructed projects follow starkly contrasting trajectories in different African countries.

王宇

Her research focuses on the role of intermarriage and individual achievement as pathways to social mobility in China during a period of rapid economic, social and demographic change. Her current project is about the interaction between demographic changes and assortative mating in contemporary China. Her articles have appeared in journals including Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, American Journal of Public Health, and Contraception. Wang has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in sociology from Renmin University of China, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D.

王夏娃

Her research merges material science and electromagnetism by tailoring the emission spectra of high temperature emitters with micro-to-nano structures. She worked on those devices and systems for use in the next generation radioisotope batteries to power spacecraft flying beyond Jupiter and into deep space where solar energy is not sufficient to provide any power. She is also interested in silicon photonics, semiconductor devices, and micro-to-nano fabrication process.

王珊

Her research interests lie primarily in the area of cognitive psychology and extend across a range of subjects related to perception and action, individual differences and life span development. More specifically, her research work focuses on visual perception, pain and attention, and age-related changes in motor cognition.

王梦琪

Her research focuses on economic anthropology and how home ownership and property relations implicate and structure state power, capitalism and everyday life in post-socialist China, as well as among overseas Chinese. Her teaching interests at Duke Kunshan include cultures and movements, global China studies, urban studies and cultural anthropology. Wang has a B.A. in economics and in Chinese and media studies from Beijing Normal University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from Brandeis University.

Ben Van Overmeire

His research focuses on the study of Zen Buddhist texts. His teaching interests at Duke Kunshan include ethics and leadership, global China studies, religion and literature. Van Overmeire has a B.A. (cum laude) and M.A. (summa cum laude) in Germanic languages and literatures from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium; an M.A. in American studies (magna cum laude) from the University of Antwerp, Belgium; an M.A. in comparative literature (magna cum laude) from the State University of New York, Stony Brook; and a Ph.D. in literature from the University of California, San Diego.

Annemieke Van Den Dool

Her research interests include public policy, environmental policy and crisis politics. Her current research focuses on why and how public health crises such as food safety scandals, epidemics and environmental incidents lead to legal change in China, and what the nature of such change is. Before joining Duke Kunshan, she was a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School and a lecturer at Mid Sweden University, where she taught courses on public administration, policy processes, and crisis politics. Van den Dool has a B.A.
